Behind the Lens
Welcome to my landscape, nature, and wildlife photography blog.
Here you'll find all of the latest images, and commentary by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography. Read on to find out about where I've been, and what landscape, nature, and wildlife subjects I've been photographing.
Magpie Mine
A first trip out to Magpie Mine in the Derbyshire Peak District. The weather forecast wasn’t going to provide an epic sunset, but with an industrial landscape I thought “moody” would work quite well.
Carl Wark & Higger Tor
It was one of those days that falls into the uninspired category. landscape photography scouting as I head out into the Peak District National Park to take a look at Carl Wark and Higger Tor.
Robin Hood’s Stride
A first time visit to Robin Hood’s Stride in the Derbyshire Peak District for a spot of landscape photography.
Peak District Sunrise
An early morning alarm call for a spot of landscape photography. The plan . . . to shoot Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill in the Derbyshire Peak District at sunrise, with the potential of a cloud inversion.
Bamford Edge
A first time visit to Bamford Edge in the Derbyshire Peak District, for a spot of sunset landscape photography and I have to say it was very enjoyable.
Baslow Poppy Field
The poppy field at Baslow in the Derbyshire Peak District turned into quite a controversial location. A photographer on one of the Facebook groups I follow shared some photographs of this spot. It's probably then safe to say after that all hell broke loose.
