Behind the Lens
Welcome to my landscape, nature, and wildlife photography blog.
Here you'll find all of the latest images, and commentary by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography. Read on to find out about where I've been, and what landscape, nature, and wildlife subjects I've been photographing.
Downs Banks Sunrise
This morning was a five-fifteen alarm to go back and visit the Barlaston Downs Banks, Staffordshire. The cunning plan was to shoot the first light from up by Millennium Point, and then to have a wander around, and explore the top end of the woodland.
Barlaston Downs Banks
Autumn landscape photography at the Barlaston Downs Banks. I’ve visited the Downs Banks numerous times over the years. What I’d failed to understand was that I’d only explored about a third of the area, and that the parts I hadn’t explored have some stunning views of the Shropshire Hills.
Autumn at Swineholes
This afternoon I headed out to Swineholes Wood, Staffordshire in the hope of finding some autumn colours.
Peak District Sunrise
An early morning alarm call for a spot of landscape photography. The plan . . . to shoot Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill in the Derbyshire Peak District at sunrise, with the potential of a cloud inversion.
Sunset at The Roaches
There was nothing in the weather forecast to suggest there was to be anything epic this evening but I thought I’d go for some side light on Ramshaw Rocks in the Peak District. Unfortunately being popular, and a nice day it was rammed up there. In the end I found myself up around Blake Mere (The Mermaid Pool), and decided to shoot a few panoramas as the sun set.
