Behind the Lens
Welcome to my landscape, nature, and wildlife photography blog.
Here you'll find all of the latest images, and commentary by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography. Read on to find out about where I've been, and what landscape, nature, and wildlife subjects I've been photographing.
Grindon Moor
Like a lot of landscape photographers I’m a sucker for a lone tree. Photographing this one required a little bit of detective work as I hadn’t got a clue where it was other than it was “in the Peak District”.
Downs Banks Sunrise
This morning was a five-fifteen alarm to go back and visit the Barlaston Downs Banks, Staffordshire. The cunning plan was to shoot the first light from up by Millennium Point, and then to have a wander around, and explore the top end of the woodland.
Barlaston Downs Banks
Autumn landscape photography at the Barlaston Downs Banks. I’ve visited the Downs Banks numerous times over the years. What I’d failed to understand was that I’d only explored about a third of the area, and that the parts I hadn’t explored have some stunning views of the Shropshire Hills.
Autumn at Swineholes
This afternoon I headed out to Swineholes Wood, Staffordshire in the hope of finding some autumn colours.
Creswell’s Piece
I’d still got my woodland hat on, and tonight I thought I’d take a look at Creswell’s Piece in Staffordshire to see what I could photograph.
Consall Valley
Woodland landscape photography. Still inspired by the “success” I’d found at Swineholes Wood I decided I stick with exploring local woodlands, and heading out to Consall Valley in Staffordshire.
