Behind the Lens
Welcome to my landscape, nature, and wildlife photography blog.
Here you'll find all of the latest images, and commentary by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography. Read on to find out about where I've been, and what landscape, nature, and wildlife subjects I've been photographing.
Springtime Cloud Inversion
Photographing a stunning sunrise springtime cloud inversion at The Roaches in the Peak District and I almost missed it due to a bacon, and cheese sandwich. Now that would have been a travesty!
Back to Baldstone
Tonight there was another half chance of a sunset, so I headed up to the back of The Roaches in the Staffordshire Peak District for. spot of landscape photography thinking I may get some nice light on the Baldstone ridgeline.
Some Things Never Change
I decided to go Roach End in the Staffordshire Peak District figuring it should be quieter than over by Hen Cloud. It felt like it’d been weeks since there was a decent sunset, and a half chance of getting one tonight was enough to get me out of the house, even with a fresh breeze forecast.
Robin Hood’s Stride
A first time visit to Robin Hood’s Stride in the Derbyshire Peak District for a spot of landscape photography.
Baldstone Ridgeline
I’ve photographed Baldstone in Staffordshire a few times, but always from a distance, and always from Gib Torr. Today I was going to rectify that. The only spanner that could possibly be in the works was if the wind was too fresh.
Grindon Moor
Like a lot of landscape photographers I’m a sucker for a lone tree. Photographing this one required a little bit of detective work as I hadn’t got a clue where it was other than it was “in the Peak District”.
