As tends to be the case when I go out for a wander it's for the purpose of photography and it was with photography in mind that I flicked through the weather apps before bed. It’s the end of October and for a change there was no rain forecast but it was forecast for 40 - 50 mph winds, which isn't ideal for woodland photography. It was one of them do I, or don’t I decisions that I didn’t quite make before nodding off but with no concrete decision made I set the alarm anyway.

In the morning after an extra half an hour in bed trying to talk myself out of going sense prevailed and I headed over to Wyming Brook.

I parked up at what I believe is the main car park on Redmires Road (S10 4QX gets you there) and contemplated my life choices. The wind rocked the car as I watched the trees bending more than I suspect they were used to. It’s taken me more years than I dare to think about to do my first visit to Wyming Brook so irrespective of the conditions I was always going to go and have a mooch after all I’d spent an hour and a half driving here but given the amount of motion in the trees I wasn’t expecting great things.

Walk wise I followed the brook down through the wooded ravine, although my knees this morning insist it was more of a climb than a walk. The joys of getting older . . .

I'm not sure of how much of the brook I actually walked and photographed. I spoke to a chap who said I was about half way down, and I went a bit further after that to where there's a bench, so maybe did three quarters of it (at least that's what I'm telling myself) but I'm not sure.

I didn't go any further as there were people working on replacing the sleepers that retain the path, so I headed back up the way I came.

All in all I spent around three hours working my way down the ravine to that point. Whilst it was a little challenging given the wind it was still a very enjoyable day out.

I plan on going back to Wyming Brook next year as I’d like to explore the rest of the ravine and the wider woodland area. It looks like it’s a location that has plenty of potential and will take a few more visits to explore properly.

I hope you enjoy a few photos from my climb, I mean walk as much as I did being there. I think they're pretty much in order of descent.

You can view more images from Wyming Brook, and my gallery of other Peak District locations.
